Sandifer Library/Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader News

In the Sandifer Elementary Library, students in the 2nd – 5th grades participate in the Accelerated Reader Program. They read special A.R. books, take computerized tests, earn points and win prizes! Students in the 1st grade do not take part at the beginning of school but begin later in the school year.

Students are encouraged to begin at their individual “comfort levels” and to challenge themselves to progress to more difficult reading levels. Participation is encouraged in a variety of ways. Each year special readers are honored by having their pictures added to the Accelerated Reader Wall of Fame. If students accumulate 100 points during the school year, their photos join others from past years. As different goals are met, prizes are awarded. Each month, a list of the “Top Ten Point Earners” is posted. Contests and rewards are given throughout the year to promote participation. We give “classroom rewards” to classes that have earned the most points weekly and monthly.

Our Accelerated Reader is now a web-based program. We have all of our old quizzes with lots of new ones! Parents and students can go to online to view the entire list. Parents are encouraged to participate in the Home Connect program to view their child’s progress. (Information + passwords were sent home.)
